Algebra 2 (for credit)
Prerequisites: Algebra I and Geometry.
This course is equivalent to a year-long Algebra 2 course. Due to the condensed nature of summer courses, the workload will be extensive. Students who take this course will receive credit for Algebra 2 provided they pass the in-class final. Students can also take this course for non-credit; strengthening their skills and preparing for the subject.
This course begins with a review of topics from Algebra 1 and then proceeds to include: radicals, fractional exponents, complex numbers, polynomial equations, functions, relations, systems of equations, and inequalities (including absolute value inequalities), logarithmic and exponential functions, and probability. Algebra 2 has a component that meets the trigonometry requirement. Students completing this course may take the SAT Subject Test in Mathematics, Level I. Students will have live lessons from 9 am-12 pm and will be assigned homework to be completed offline from 1-3 pm while the teacher is available for extra help asynchronously at that time
Note: Portledge students still need to take four years of math. This course does not count towards that goal. Non-Portledge students are welcome to take the course, but they should check with their school to determine if they will earn credit for this course.
