Ceramics (Part 1) - Potter’s Wheel & Clay Building

This is Part 1 of a 2-Part camp. This week begins with exercises designed to develop skills as a potter and covers all the basics of working with ceramics. Campers will learn how to “throw” small pots on the potter’s wheel and build clay pieces using techniques such as the pinch, coil, and slab construction. This session consists of wheel demonstrations and hands-on experience. Surface decorating techniques will also be learned and applied to all ceramic pieces. Sample projects may include, but are not limited to, small pots, hand built tiles, vessels, wind chimes, jewelry holders, decorative boxes, plaques, and containers. Finished projects will be fired and ready to glaze in our Paint & Glaze Pottery Add-On camp, which is held the following week.
