Chess Challenge and Strategic Thinking

Your child is invited to join Senior Chess Master and science teacher Roger LaFlair for chess instruction and a mind-testing chess challenge. Students will gain a solid foundation that emphasizes the fundamental skills required to succeed at chess, including chess tactics, opening principles, and endgame theory. Participants will learn about chess notation, proper tournament etiquette, and the use of chess clocks. More intensive instruction is available to advanced players aspiring to become a ranked expert. Participants will compete in chess tournaments and their improvement will be recognized at a final awards ceremony. The program will also use other mentally challenging games to develop strategic thinking skills. Taught by Roger LaFlair
